I’m offering guitar, ukulele, and mandolin lessons to students of all skill levels! I have been teaching professionally since 2014, and I teach over 1000 lessons a year with students from age 8, to 60+.

My teaching style is individually designed for every one of my students, with the most emphasis always being on the student’s playing goals. If the student desires a theory based approach to learning, I would design the lessons with that in mind. Should the student desire to be able to play chords around a campfire, and understand playing on a fundamental level, lessons would centre upon that goal.

Music is my passion, and it fills me with great joy to be able to share my knowledge with those that express an interest. My hope is that through my lessons, musical concepts and playing technique can be explained in the simplest, and most accessible way possible. It is never too late to start learning an instrument, and I can promise that it will be a lifelong investment of happiness. I am currently offering lessons out of my studios in two communities, Edmonton (downtown), and Spruce Grove. Contact me for more info on each of these. It would be helpful for me if you informed me of your desired lesson location (Edmonton or Spruce Grove) when you contact me.

All that’s required of the student is to have a functioning instrument, a lined paper notebook for lesson progress - preferably with a pocket to hold loose sheets, and some self discipline for at home practicing.

TESTIMONIALS

I have taken a few lessons before but nothing ever made sense to me, and I may as well have had two left hands. After a few lessons, with his patience and knowledge everything is starting to come together. Still a ways to go from going on tour, but what a great start.

Don reinvigorated my passion for learning the guitar. As a guitarist of five years, I had no musical theory, or knowledge of the fretboard. Through Don’s well-honed teaching abilities as well as his ability to align my learning style with my learning goals, I was able to very quickly learn a great deal of theory and apply it to playing. I daresay I even felt equipped with the knowledge to begin creating my own arrangements of my favourite songs!

I have been taking lessons with Don for the past three and a half years, studying both ukulele and guitar. Throughout that time, Don has provided consistent guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback that have helped me grow tremendously as a musician.

Don has a remarkable ability to explain both practical techniques and music theory in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. His instruction has inspired me to explore music more deeply and has given me the confidence to apply theoretical concepts in a meaningful way on my instruments. As someone who often needs to hear things more than once, I especially appreciate his patience and willingness to revisit concepts without hesitation.

Beyond his extensive musical knowledge and talent, Don is always professional, encouraging, and positive during lessons. He creates an environment that makes learning enjoyable while continually motivating students to improve.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from Don, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of music, improve their playing, and develop into a well-rounded musician.

Don is a talented musician and an exceptional teacher. He meets unique student needs by providing customized lessons that are rich with information. I think his most admirable skills are his capacity for infinite patience and his continual warm, gentle encouragement.

What I like about guitar lessons is the teacher is upbeat even when I’m difficult to teach! You never gave up!
